Teatro Marikina's making money

Teatro M recently concluded it's 2008 summer workshop for ballet, voice, arts and crafts etc. But it left a lot of parents and guardians disappointed, what the parent's thought was a 1500 Php fee for the a single workshop turned out to be more including the uniform, tickets, souvenir, extra activities, etc.

I understand that the kids needs to have their uniform [that costs 850Php which will cost a lot more cheaper when purchased somewhere else] but what I don't understand is the souvenir that costs P175 per piece. Given that it's in black and white and it contains the major Marikina incumbents it even has advertisements on them like a juice making company, and an electronics repair shop. This magazine/ souvenir should have been included in the fee of the workshop, and if not it should not be compulsory to buy it because the workshop certificates will not be handed over to the non buying participants, that's why we bought our own copy of the souvenir/magazine.

I remember there is even the extra curricular activity that they had to compulsory attend which again has a price tag [100Php x2]. The kids where advised to go to "Kapitan Moy" to attend the cooking demo, and the Musical Play and Puppet Show which is totally not related to the ballet class.

Of course we had to buy the uniform for the recital otherwise our little ballerina will not be included, it cost us another 400 pesos.

I'm just glad that summer workshop is over. Next year I will not enroll my kid in the Teatro, I'd rather enroll her to other summer workshops around Marikina, I don't want to be held up again because of hidden workshop fees. Next year I will ask if there other fees to pay aside from the actual workshop fee so that I won't be surprised if there are other fees to pay.

I'm very dissatisfied as a customer because of the hidden fees,
as business person if if you are going to sell a product or a service do the following to keep your customer's satisfied:

  • Keep your subscribers well informed
  • Don't have hidden charges
  • Be transparent
  • Don't force your customers to buy extra stuff

Keeping your customer's satisfied and contented should be a business man/woman's primary concern. If your customer's are satisfied they will come back and will tell their friends that you have a great product/ service
