This blog is 3 years old this month

I am not sure if I am going to refer to myself as a blogger because as we all know bloggers blog all the time or at least once a day. But in my case I blog when there something new that I found or there is something very interesting that I want to share, and I want to refer to it later, and of course I blog if I have the time and the resources.

Unlike other blogs that tackles a particular topic this blog is a mixture of a lot of things, just look at the labels and see what I mean.

This blog has been around for 3 years now. My first blog post was September 2006 and since then I've explored a lot of things online and offline and posted them here. When I go back to my old blog posts I find a lot of imperfections which I try to correct but since I only blog when I have the time and resources I am unable correct all the imperfections.

That is how life is I guess, you notice the imperfections and try to correct them but if you can't you just have to move on and do your best with what you have right now.

How to deal with theft and property damage

Written by: Ollie Style
-
How to deal with theft at home and in the office.

Whether at home or in the office you can not totally eradicate loss or damage on your property so you have to ensure or at least minimize the loss or damage on your property or investment.

You could do these things to protect your property:

  • Have an inventory of all your valuables
  • Get a log book and then
  • Track all the usage of your office equipment
  • Install a security camera
  • Delegate someone to ensure the security of your things [in other words get a security guard]

Sometimes even with all the above mentioned measures you can not totally eliminate theft or damage on your property but at least you have a certain degree of control and peace of mind.

Are lazy people mostly fearless?

Written by: Ollie Style
-
Experts say that fear is the most effective way to drive someone to action, but why do some people ignore this fear?

Is it because they are fearless or ignorant, I guess their laziness overpowers their fear and inaction is their only recourse.

Lazy people would rather face the deadly truth and later, than to act upon something that needs immediate action, and they mostly do not fear or probably are ignorant of imminent danger of poverty or inadequacy.

I guess lazy people are more ignorant than fearless because fear drives me to action all the time and I am not the most industrious person around.

Free Movies - another way to save money

Written by: Ollie Style
-
I found this one on Google when I typed "free movies" it was the first entries on the list. I then searched for "Harry Potter" and it popped up, clicked on "Watch Full" and I started seeing the movie, the quality is good enough. Since then I've seen "Joan of Arc" and now I'm trying to stream "American Gangster".

I see this as another way to save on the DVDs I would buy in the streets, I know those are pirated stuff but people buy they anyways, I'm no saint, I buy those kinda movies yes, but not anymore, now I could have them for free at
http://www.watch-movies.net

The site says it's not doing anything wrong because because they are not the one who upload them or save them, here is their disclaimer:

When people know what you're worth

Written by: Ollie Style
-
All sorts of things might happen if people know exactly what you're worth.

These are some possible scenarios:

  • People will demand more from you
  • Ask for your money
  • Borrow money from you
  • Ask that you teach them your secrets
  • Steal your stuff
  • Steal your ideas
  • People will get envious
  • Use you for their own good
  • and a host of other things that you probably haven't thought of

I learned something new this past few days, and that is, not to give away everything about you. Your ideas, the amount of money in your bank account and your potential earnings.

This is the very reason why the payslip is confidential.

If people know what you're really worth they will get envious and might just do one of the above things to you.

So don't tell anyone what you are really worth, not even your closest relatives, and learn to SHUT UP.

iPod Touch winner

Written by: Ollie Style
-
I won an iPod Touch last Monday morning at "Something Fishy" in Libis Quezon City.

I was invited to go the Accenture gig, they had a 1000 head booking at the "Fishy" resto to accommodate and invite seasoned call center agents from "Eastwood City" to attend their gig to attract and get leads for their HR department.

All I wanted was the free breakfast, yep I can shamelessly say that's all I wanted, they are giving it away for free anyways why not take the opportunity. I never thought I would win their one only raffle price which is the iPod touch. HAHAHAHAHAHA, thanks Accenture guys, and thanks to the other 3 guys who left earlier who where called to get the price. I was the third person to be called and I was just lucky to be there.

True Faith was there and so I wrote a note asking them them to sing "Hi" my most favorite True Faith song, guess where I wrote the note? Yep on the raffle ticket, but how did I got the price? I asked for another raffle ticket from one Accenture's guys, and they gave me another one of their raffle stubs where I wrote my name.

Hallelujah Thank God, and the Accenture peeps.

Win 150K from Gobingo of GMA 7

Written by: Ollie Style
-
We recently joined Gobingo the virtual BINGO show on GMA 7, and now we are officially one of the hopefuls of the Php 150,000.00 show.

Gobingo is a black out BINGO game where you have to get all fifteen numbers that you need to see during the duration of the show.

You have to use one of the products that Gobingo endorses and exchange it for the Gobingo card with the user code that you have to text to the Gobingo number.

We don't usually join these type of contests but since we simply need to exchange wrappers of products to join we decided to join [I say "WE" because we are playing as a family] We typically use the products that they advertise on the show like Cream Silk Conditioner and Head & Shoulders so it's easy for us to join the contest, we don't really need to buy products that we don't really use. By the way our card is set for Week 7.

These are the instructions at the back of the Gobingo card:
  1. Lightly scratch the protective label to reveal the unique code
  2. Choose a number from 1 to 50. Each number is equivalent to 1 unique txtart
  3. And then text the number you picked from [1 to 50] and the unique code that is that on the card this is the format that you need to follow and text to Gobingo: GOBINGO / , , ,
, and then send to 2444 for Globe, Touch Mobile and Sun Cellular, and 367 for Smart and Talk and Text Subscribers

Note: if you will text the code today the numbers that will be sent to you can be used the following week. [Monday is the start of the week of Gobingo, for a full listings of the contest dates go here]

We us luck.

Asians no entry!!!

Written by: Ollie Style
-
This kind of thing spells out DISCRIMINATION. Some affiliate programs in North America will not let you participate in their affiliate program if you reside some where in Asia. You can not use or participate in the affiliate programs if you are not in North America.

Since the internet is universal and anybody who has access on the internet can view any site/ blog-- companies from North America should not restrict Asians like me to participate in any of their affiliate programs and besides if they take a look at my hits most of them are from NA which they should be happy about because they might just get a sale or two from my blog.

But don't let this kind of DISCRIMINATION let you down in anyway, there are still a lot of companies on the Internet that would accept you and your blog, in their precious affiliate program.

The way I see it they should be thankful that people from Asia are joining their affiliate programs [I'm talking about companies who will not let you join their affiliate program] because they will have an army of new site/blogs that carry their products/services.

I will not mention who these MONSTERS are, they know who they are.

The book is almost done [2]

Written by: Ollie Style
-
I was near PUP Sta. Mesa this morning but the desktop printer store is not yet open. I asked around the area and was told that the store would open by 12 noon. It was only 8:30am, so I decided to head on home. I tried one desktop printer but the out put was faint, I could not use the print out as a master copy, so I will go back either tonight or tomorrow night before I go to work to print the remaining chapters of the book and the of course the page numbers. Wish me luck.

The book is almost done

Written by: Ollie Style
-

I have always wanted to have my own publishing business, and self publish my own book, now it's almost within reach.

I'm almost done with the dummy of my book, I just need to finish the page numbers and some of the chapter's headings and I could print the initial copies.

I will be going to Sta. Mesa to have some of the pages printed on a laser printer. I could have one book page printed for as low as one pesos in PUP, well not inside the campus but outside, along the street or as all folks call it there the calyehon going to The Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

I know everything will go well with the book project. I just hope it doesn't rain, because I don't have any sleep yet, I will be going there right after my shift.

This book project started out as simple idea back in January 2004, to help aspiring call center agents who can not pass the preliminary testing of call centers here in the Philippines. Last year I almost was able to print out the first few hundred copies of the book but my computer broke down. I finally got another computer last February, but I got busy with blogging that's why it got stuck in the drawing board again, and now finally I will be able to print by the end of this month.

Teatro Marikina's making money

Written by: Ollie Style
-
Teatro M recently concluded it's 2008 summer workshop for ballet, voice, arts and crafts etc. But it left a lot of parents and guardians disappointed, what the parent's thought was a 1500 Php fee for the a single workshop turned out to be more including the uniform, tickets, souvenir, extra activities, etc.

I understand that the kids needs to have their uniform [that costs 850Php which will cost a lot more cheaper when purchased somewhere else] but what I don't understand is the souvenir that costs P175 per piece. Given that it's in black and white and it contains the major Marikina incumbents it even has advertisements on them like a juice making company, and an electronics repair shop. This magazine/ souvenir should have been included in the fee of the workshop, and if not it should not be compulsory to buy it because the workshop certificates will not be handed over to the non buying participants, that's why we bought our own copy of the souvenir/magazine.

I remember there is even the extra curricular activity that they had to compulsory attend which again has a price tag [100Php x2]. The kids where advised to go to "Kapitan Moy" to attend the cooking demo, and the Musical Play and Puppet Show which is totally not related to the ballet class.

Of course we had to buy the uniform for the recital otherwise our little ballerina will not be included, it cost us another 400 pesos.

I'm just glad that summer workshop is over. Next year I will not enroll my kid in the Teatro, I'd rather enroll her to other summer workshops around Marikina, I don't want to be held up again because of hidden workshop fees. Next year I will ask if there other fees to pay aside from the actual workshop fee so that I won't be surprised if there are other fees to pay.

I'm very dissatisfied as a customer because of the hidden fees,
as business person if if you are going to sell a product or a service do the following to keep your customer's satisfied:

  • Keep your subscribers well informed
  • Don't have hidden charges
  • Be transparent
  • Don't force your customers to buy extra stuff

Keeping your customer's satisfied and contented should be a business man/woman's primary concern. If your customer's are satisfied they will come back and will tell their friends that you have a great product/ service

I don't have a pagemaker

Written by: Ollie Style
-
How to make dummy of your book the old fashioned way

Since I don't have a Pagemaker software I am forced to do the mock up / dummy of my book the old way where you literally cut and paste the printed pages of the book to a board or a sheet of paper.

Here are the steps that I did:

  • Encoded the chapters of the book on a word processor
  • made two columns representing one book page each and then
  • Printed the book on a laser printer [you should not print it using a ink-jet printer because it smudges and the print out is not as good as a laser print out [camera ready copy]
  • Cut the printed pages and pasted it on clean sheet of bond paper/board [which will be ready for printing on any printing duplicating machine]

I am not yet done with the dummy of the book it takes a lot of patience to finish, I am slowly fitting bits and pieces of the book when I get home from work, and it's taking forever to finish, this weekend If I don't have any distractions I will be able to finish the dummy and print the book by the end of the month, May 31 2008.

It's the book's fault

Written by: Ollie Style
-
I have been busy doing the dummy of my book for call center agents that's why I haven't been able to blog these past few days.

My target release is the end of this month, I will be selling it via telemarketing, and on consignment to small magazine stands around my area.

I will tell you if it is making money or not.

For now I'm off to finish the layout of the book.

Fluctuating subscriptions from Feedburner

Written by: Ollie Style

I have a dream of having at least 1000 email and RSS subscribers combined by the end of the year. But the way things are going I will be lucky if my readers reach at least 100 readers by the end of the year. I started using Feedburner just last February and the highest number of subscribers I got is 22 which went down to 20 as of yesterday and now I only have 18 subscribers. I guess my readers doesn't like what I am blogging about.

During the first few days I had feed burner I was talking about anything, from personal things, websites, scholarships, and even “Friendster”. I noticed that my blog entry which I entitled “Friendster Nation” actually took in 13 subscribers, but as I posted what I wanted to write about which is affiliate marketing, business, and some other stuff I like, my Feedburner subscribers fluctuated from 13 to 17 then back to 13 subscribers within a 5 week period. And then a few days ago I posted
Traits of millionaires non millionaires should imitate This post pulled up my subscription to 22 Feedburner readers, but now I only have 18 subscribers via Feedburner I don't know the reason behind the decline but it's probably because I did a blog fast this past few days.

Unlike face to face marketing where you could get your answers to your marketing questions immediately Internet marketing or RSS blog subscriptions is totally different you can not see the facial expressions of your subscribers
, you won't be able to see if they raised their eyebrows or if they crossed their arms while reading your latest blog entry. The only time you will realize that your readers do not like what they are reading is when you look at your subscription the following day and find less subscribers.

I guess I need to ask you a question once in a while? If you like what you are seeing in my blog. Maybe you could also leave a comment so that I will know.

I have a long way to go in order to reach my goal of getting at least a thousand combined subscribers from Feedblitz and Feedburner. I may or may not reach that goal but I'm so happy that you are reading my humble blog THANK YOU SO MUCH...

Where are my notebooks?

I keep a notebook for my thoughts and ideas ever since I was ten, I've lost a lot of them but I continue to buy and write each time I lost one. Now that I publish my thoughts online I still use a notebook to write down my thoughts. I recently lost a very valuable notebook that has all of my thoughts and drafts regarding a book that I've been working on. I looked all over but I can't find it, I just hope I could retrace my ideas so I could put the project together.

Asking for God's Blessing and Dong Abay's Song Dyad

Bono always asks GOD to bless his projects,
I will do the same from now on.
I'll do my best and ask for GOD's Blessings.
But I know I should not expect it to be successful
simply because I asked GOD to bless what I'm doing,
HE still has the final say about things.
All I have to do afterwards would be to wait and see
what GOD has in store for me.
===

dyad – song title
dong abay – artist
flipino – Album

sa puso at damdamin
hindi ka maglalaho
lagi kang iisipin
kahit na sa malayo
wag sanang kalimutan
kapag ako'y wala na
na nagkasama minsan
sa hirap at ginhawa

ako ay nangangarap
na lagi kang Makita
alam ko na mahirap
mag-antay ng pag asa
makinig ka sana
sa sasabihin ko
ikaw ang alaala
na maganda ang mundo
[na masaya ang mundo]

para, para, para
para, para, para sa iyo
ang kantang ito
sana, sana, sana,
sana, sana, sana,
makarating pa ako sa iyo
para, para, para para sa iyo
