How a blogger made $100 a week

Here is a post by a problogger who is making more than $100 a week way back in 2006, he might be earning even more now. Read on...
-

-
Well it would appear that another year has quickly come and gone, but it has been a very eventful year for me in terms of my AdSense experience so I thought I’d share my experience over the last 12 months, and maybe throw in a few hints and tips that I have learnt in that time.

OK will start off with who I am and how long I have been doing this for? My name is Chris and I’m a 21 year old university student from Brisbane, Australia. I started my sites back in the middle of 2004 for a bit of fun and to apply some of the new skills that I had just learnt in one of the subjects I had just studied at uni. That said I did have a bit of website and SEO experience from a few hobby sites that I created back in 1999 – 2001 when I made a couple of sites while I was in high school, again just as a hobby about topics I liked. As you can see I have been a member here at DP since October 2005 so I have been here for over a year now and I have learnt SO much, and I guess this thread is my little way of summarizing a lot of what I have learnt and giving back.

So I guess what you all really want to know is just how much am I making from AdSense on my sites. Well as it stands I’m making around $120/day lately. Here is a graph of my earnings progress since I joined DP:

As you can see when I first joined DP I was earning a very measly $10/week from AdSense with my sites that were at this point about 15 months old. Once I joined DP I obviously had my eyes opened to the true potential of my sites, not just in terms of AdSense but also in terms of SEO and the importance of building a good quality site. With this, I quickly saw improvements in my AdSense earnings and my traffic to my sites by applying that simple advice that is scattered all over these forums, and within a few short weeks I was earning a very solid $100-$200/week which I was quite happy with.

From October 2005 through to May 2006 I saw fairly gradually, but small growth of my sites with the exception of two weeks in February where my sites were down for a few days and constantly crashing until I upgraded my hosting, which had become overburdened due the progress I had made. Then in May I got caught up with my university commitments and then I went on a couple of brief holidays which saw my sites’ growth stagnate until around August at which point I had a terrible drop in revenues as a result of Google supplementally indexing my sites and placing many of my pages into supplemental results, a problem which I would solve a couple of months later.

Then came September! As you can see on the graph I made significant progress in September. What did I do that made such amazing returns in such a short period of time? Simple – I got serious and started working hard and applying what I had learnt over the past two years.

How did I get serious? I took a bit of a risk, bought a few books about AdSense, SEO and general website development and dropped down to part time uni and started dedicating more time to my websites. I started writing articles that were on topics that people wanted to know about and topics that people were searching for, and I placed these articles into a highly optimized template that was just designed for these articles, then I went about building a few backlinks for these articles to help with the SEO. I’d have periods of maybe a week where everyday I would sit down and write an article two, often three or four, and I’d just keep writing, sharing my knowledge, sharing my expertise.

Why were articles successful? These articles each focused on an individual search term or topic within my industry. The articles were informative and useful. They were 100% original and completely unique in the industry. They were my thoughts, opinions and beliefs on topics that I was very knowledgeable on. They were detailed and lengthy. And the search engines loved them.

Why did the search engines love them? Because they were original and unique, and because they were getting backlinks and they were on my established sites which I believe have a fair amount of “TrustRank” because at this point my sites were well over 2 years old and had thousands of backlinks, because I had slowly but surely developed them over the previous two years. Plus the articles were all on niche topics that there wasn’t that much competition for, and I had employed very basic, but very solid SEO techniques. Things like:

- Giving each article an individual highly relevant page title.
- Using meta descriptions and keywords, but not abusing them.
- Using H1 and H2 tags.
- Using good keyword density and specific phrase targeting.
- Using good quality, unique, original and focused content.
- Building some well anchored backlinks.
- With a good navigational system between articles.
- Using an aged domain with good TrustRank.

These techniques are nothing special, and are the basics of SEO and when they are applied to individual articles and based around a well optimized AdSense template is the formula for high earnings and success with AdSense.

So what sort of template am I using? It is again nothing special. It basically is a simple article page that was 780px wide, with an AdSense links unit at the top, then a 100px high header image, then a left hand navigation bar. Then a large rectangle unit above the article, then the article itself with a H1 title, with H2 sub titles, where required, followed by another large rectangle unit after the article which was along side a list of similar articles, then a footer. Far from a revolutionary template design. I have attached the hand drawn version I gave to my designer so you can see how simple the design was.

Ok so that is the basics of how I went from less than $10/day in August 2006 to $100/day in October 2005, but before I wrap up this “little” post I thought I’d also share a few bits of wisdom that I have picked up along this 15 month learning curve here at DP.

Firstly so many people out there are preaching you need to diversifying and make MORE sites if you want to make more money with AdSense, and often in this suggestion is the timeless of debate of which is the best way to make money with AdSense, with sheer quantity of sites or a few quality sites? Personally I’m a quality sort of person who believes that that with every page and site I’m creating and building an asset that will not just be of value now, but well into the future. I’m not working on a snatch and grab model of trying to create one spam site a day everyday for a month to hopefully earning $1 from each site so that by the end of the month I can be earning $30/day. Why don’t I work like this – because in life making money generally comes down to one thing – providing value, and sites like that are soon weeded out by refined search engine algorithms.

Whether you are a CEO of a large company or a factory worker working on assembly line you are being paid for the value you provide. When it comes to websites you also need to be providing value to your visitors for them to continue to use your service, and by providing value you will gain them as a loyal reader, and as a reader you can advertise to them. The more people and the more value you provide the more you will make. It’s a simple equation really. Now search engines are constantly working towards weeding out the “poor value” sites that are often referred to SPAM and whilst there may be loopholes at the moment with every passing year the search engines become savvier and are refining their search algorithms.

So for me providing value is normally about providing good quality content. So I make sure that when I’m creating sites these days I’m adding something to the site that makes it worthwhile for someone to visit and if possible try to make it so valuable to them that they are actually inspired to come back again and again. These sorts of sites are then normally looked upon favorably by search engines as they receive natural link development from all the fans of the site. This is a model of site development that doesn’t just work presently, but is a model that I’m confident that will work well into the future of this rapidly changing environment.

Another issue that is often brought up is the issue of creating lots of sites for high paying niches. Personally I have never wasted my time with such things because I’m focused on providing good quality expert content and if I’m going to do this I need to make sure that I’m knowledgeable in the niche that I’m creating the site on, and unfortunately for me I’m just not that knowledgeable on mesothelioma, cancer, debt consolidation or lawyers, nor do I have any passion towards developing my knowledge on such niches so creating a site for such things would just be a waste of my time and any visitor’s time that came by my site, because the information on it would be next to useless.

What is a much smarter idea, that I believe I got from one of Shoemoney’s posts was that you should establish a good quality site in an industry that you are familiar with and knowledgeable of then when you have built the site to close to its potential and you are looking to make a new site to diversify, you should look to make a site that is still in a similar industry but has only a degree or two of separation from your original site. So say you had a site about Sports Cars, instead of trying to start a site about Music or something else that is completely unrelated to your established site, you might try making a site about Car Sound Systems, or Luxury Cars, or something that is still related to cars. This way you can build the new site somewhat off the back of the already established Sports Cars site. Plus you already have a great deal of knowledge about the related industry plus it is easier to stay motivated if you make sites about topics related to your passions, and even if you don’t have expert knowledge to start off with, you will pick things up quickly when you have loads of related knowledge from your other expertise. This is so much easier than trying to develop a new site from scratch and is a very effective way of developing a successful network of sites that feed off each other.

In this game of making money online you really should be always experimenting and trialling new things, but you should also be looking to apply methods that you know work. Building on what you have with more of what has worked in the past and consolidating your position.

You also need to make sure that you are working hard and keeping yourself motivated. The online world can be extremely competitive and you need to make sure that you are doing your best to stay ahead of the pack. You should be reading diversely on a range of topics, AdSense and other earning methods, SEO, online marketing, website design and development. Reading diversely doesn’t mean just reading forums, I also highly recommend buying ebooks, books taking classes to extend your learning beyond that of JUST DP – there is a whole world of thinking out there and often I think that so many people are just reading DP thinking that it is a one stop shop for everything.

The reality is DP doesn’t have it all and a $20 book from Amazon on AdSense or SEO could make you thousands of dollars. Let’s face it, if you aren’t willing to part with $20 at bare minimum to extend your expertise, chances are you aren’t going to be the next person here making $XX,XXX/month from anything online. That said there are definitely exceptions to that but it's extremely rare. Plus you can certainly fast track your development and earnings if you are willing to shell out a few dollars to increase your knowledge, or get a good quality design made, or some special feature for your site. Plus if you have invested money into your projects chances are you will be a lot more committed to gaining a return from them which will only further contribute to your development.

The reality is there are millions of people online that are willing to put their time into making money online, but only a very small proportion of those are willing to put there time AND money into giving themselves the edge, and the reality is that for every person that had tried to make a few bucks online and succeeded there have been about another 99 that tried and made nothing. So give yourself the edge, and take the risk of losing a what is literally a couple of dollars – I can almost guarantee you it will be the best risk you have ever taken.

I mentioned above, it is important you stay motivated, and one of the best ways I know of staying motivated is setting challenging goals and targets that are very detailed and measurable. That includes, short, medium and long term goals, and often making them public like here on DP is a great way of making yourself accountable to them. I personally think that you should have your goals written down somewhere along with an action plan at least and renewed them at least once a month. There have been many goal setting threads started up here at DP before in the past, many of which I have tried to stay actively involved with in the past, and I have always found them be wonderful references for both your progress and to help with keeping to a target.

Well it think this thread is getting excessively long now so I will wrap it up, with a good old fashioned, if you work hard you will reap the fruits of your labor. So stick at it, and best of luck in 2007 may it be your greatest year to date.

I like Flag Counter

Written by: Ollie Style
-
I added my first free counter on September 2006 and it has counted thousands of hits since then, but it did not count where these hits where coming from, and what I could do with the information.

But now I can track where they are coming from and I will be able keep track the number of people who actually visited my site, and so I can prepare the kind of info I will put out on my blog and thus earn with my blog eventually.

Some people have more sophisticated counters or analytics for their blogs or websites but I'm fine with
Flag Counter.

You could chose the number of flags to show on your site, I chose 248, as in all the flags that's available for me to see how many people who has been to my blog. You could even choose the Background color, Text Color, and even the Border Color of your Flag Counter so you could customize it to match your blog site.

Go ahead and get it, it's totally free

How to use Friendster to earn money

Written by: Ollie Style

Make money with a Friendster account

Some bloggers are actually using Friendster.com to make money, I know a blogger who uses Friendster to send message to his friends in the network so they could read about his new blog postings and as a result he builds up the readership of his blog.

If you want to find out how to earn from Friendster read the steps below:

Register a Friendster account

Of course you have to have an account in order to tap Friendster’s power. [For those of you who already have a Friendster account read on to learn how to earn from the network.]

Create your profile

Include all relevant info about yourself in your Friendster account, make it as colorful as you can, paint it with words and quotations.

Post your pictures

Upload your best pictures, dig up your digital photo archive and upload all your interesting pix on Friendster.

Add all your friends

Email all your friends from the invite feature of Friendster and ask them to add you on the network. You may also ask acquaintances to add you on the network.

Posts Bulletins regularly

Post important events or postings that is redirected or linked to your blog, this way you could earn money from your adnetwork.

Send messages to your friends on Friendster

Send regular messages to your friends in Friendster directing them to your blog.

Write a blog on friendster

Use the Friendster blog to post parts of your blog, but don’t post the entire blog entry let lead them to your own blog to read the whole blog article.

Link this way

Friendster doesn't give you the ability to create links on most of their pages for the simple reason that the network doesn't want you to go to another website. But you could always write your links this way: "Go to this link to read more..." >>> http://olliestyle.blogspot.com [if the link doesn't work copy and paste it to the browser. ]

You could earn through the Friendster network by simply leading your friends to your blog, and by doing so you will increase the popularity of your blog and eventually earning from your blog adnetwork. You will be amazed by the pulling power of Friendster, try it, it works.

Why your blog needs to have at least 1000 blog entries

Written by: Ollie Style
-

Why your blog needs to have at least 1000 blog entries

Experts say that your website needs to have 10000 to 15000 of original content in order to attract search engines to crawl your site and include them on their searches, and it takes that many web pages in order to get the traffic you want for your site.

1000 blog entries will at least give you a fair chance of getting noticed by readers and search engines.

But don’t just write articles that are incoherent with each other, make every entry stick. Your articles or blog entries should have one voice if your blog is about blogging it should more or less have similar content.

If your blog becomes a mixture of unrelated articles your readers will get confused, for the sake of your readers don’t mix and match your blog with unrelated stuff.

You will notice that your blog is getting some attention from people all over the world once you already have a few hundred posts, when that happens your adnetwork earning will also increase. I noticed my adnetwork earning increased [from .01 to $1 a day] when the major search engines like Google and Yahoo started producing hits for my blog. You can achieve this too, you just need to stick to it. Blog your way to 1000 entries and the rest will follow.

Here are some TIPs tips for writing those 1000 blog entries.

Create your own mind map, it works.

Create your own mind map, it works.

Use a mind map to give your blog direction, you could use pictures and different shapes to make your mind map, and now you could do it on line. The good thing about this MIND MAP is that it's totally FREE.

Make a mind map of your own, to shape the future of your blog. It's really effective, because you could create a visual representation of what you want to accomplish. As a blogger you could utilize a mind map by doing an outline of your tasks for your blog, it doesn’t need to be perfect the first time you do it. You could edit your mind map as you go.

I found a this free resource on the Internet and it has all sorts of cool add ons. There is a task manager, you could put your tasks on priority, or put a completion date a start and end date for blog postings or projects. On the format tab you could choose the layout, shape and color of the lines and elements of your mind map. You could even group the topics of your mind map by using the "boundary shape" tool.

Before I used Mindomo I have a mind map drawn on my white-board and almost all of the things that I put on it has already been realized. First my new PC, the wireless phone, and $1 a day from the adnetwork [but of course this is fluctuating – but I earn more than $30 a month so it’s just like earning $1 a day] and soon I will be publishing that I wrote. Whether you use the online mind map or you create on your on a piece of paper the important is that you have one.

Create your own mind map, it works.

Put the best on top of your Blog

Written by: Ollie Style
-

Put the best on top

Yes put the best information on top of your blog otherwise people won’t be able to see it. I made this error when I posted a blog entry about Viral Marketing.

I committed this mistake with one article in the past, I placed the best info at the bottom of the blog entry, as a result the response was really not that great.

Not a lot of people went to the FREE VIRAL MARKETING SITE even if it was totally free, because the important information was at the bottom of the page.

In a call center where I used to work the managers would put the best agent on the top of the queue in order for the agent to get the sale or the survey for the company.

If the managers placed the weak agents on top of the queue the company will not produce anything, this is also true with blogging or anything that is supposed to earn money, do not hide your best product put it out, put it in front of your customers, in your case your readers.

So place your best product where people could see it, your best inventory should not be in the stock room, it should be seen by potential customers in order for you to get a sale.

Remember that internet readers browse your articles more than they read it, and if the information that your readers are looking for is not on the first few paragraphs they will not be able to go where you want them to go.

Blog slowly

Written by: Ollie Style

Blog slowly

You don’t need to rush the process, take your time.

You don’t need to be stressed because you need to make money out of your blog immediately, remember that you are blogging because you like doing it not because you need to make money out of it.

Yes the amount of money that some people are already earning from blogging is tremendous but the reason they where able to reach that earning status is that they liked what they are doing and they took they’re time building their blog sites.

Build your blogging muscles, blog once a day or once a week at least. Make sensible postings on your blog. Do not rush it and everything you wished for, for your blog will come your way as long as you stick to blogging.

How do I know this?
I started out with $.01 per day and as I slowly make my presence stronger on the net with my blog entries I started to earn bigger with the adnetworks that I am working with.

Like a body builder who builds his muscles by slowly doing his set exercises, you could achieve your blogging muscles by slowly building your site with info-rich content.

Blog slowly but surely, I remember what one of my gurus said,
“You could only produce good art by doing it slowly but surely”. You could only paint the canvas with one color every time you hold the brush not with multiple colors.

Just like blogging you could only achieve success by posting one blog at a time. You will soon reach maximum adnetwork earnings if you just stick to it. So blog slowly but surely.

How to write blog articles in your spare time

Written by: Ollie Style
-
How to write blog articles in your spare time

We all have idle time, it may be at the bus station while waiting for your ride, in the airport while waiting to board the plane, in the office while on your coffee break, or at home doing nothing.

This spare time could just be 5 minutes or 15 minutes each day, but if you use this few minutes wisely you will not worry about what topic to post on your blog the next day.

If you follow these TIPs you will soon have a steady flow of good content for your blog.

As a blogger you should utilize your spare time by writing your blog articles in your spare time.

The articles doesn’t need to be instant master pieces, don’t be too hard on your self when trying to write, simply let your emotions and thoughts flow on paper or on your word processor. But of course don't forget to edit your blog entry before posting it.

Here are some things I write about in my spare time:
  • My next article title
  • Ideas I have within the day
  • Names of people and things
  • Upcoming events
  • New market trends
  • Government issues
  • New business trends
  • Things I need to accomplish
  • Things I’ve accomplish
  • Things that needs follow up
  • News
You could write about anything you like, after doing so, you could write an outline of the article. An outline will help you to be focused and it will help you write your article faster.

Here is an example of an outline I did for one of the articles:

Title: Do you want to increase your blog traffic?
Ideas I jotted down...
  1. -email
  2. -Free article submission
  3. -Blog directory submission
  4. -Search engine submission
  5. -Feedburner
  6. -Word of mouth
  7. -Viral marketing
[here is the complete blog entry]

I wrote the outline of this article at work while waiting for a customer to call in, and I finished the whole article at home.

Writing the outline of an article is like creating a skeleton of what you have to write about, once the skeleton is there you just need to fill in the blanks and you will be able to finish the article in no time.

Some writers do not use this approach some immediately write their thoughts on paper and work on them until the article is done, you could do that too. The important thing is that you write something down in your spare time in order to utilize your spare time to your advantage.

Writing TIPs for novice bloggers

Written by: Ollie Style
-

Writing TIPs for novice bloggers

If you are starting out to blog you could write 1 article a day in order to write your writing muscles.

These are the things that you need to do in order to write at least 1 article a day.

Force your self to write.
Yes you have to force yourself to write otherwise you will not be able to write anything. Sit down in front of the computer to write a something down on your word processor.

Have a certain schedule.
You should develop the habit of writing your articles for your blog, and to do that you have to set a certain time each day to write your blog articles. I write my for my blog after work, when I get home I turn on the computer and start writing down my thoughts.

Get a notebook
Bring a notebook anywhere you go because you’ll never know when an idea will come. Your notebook should be small enough to fit to your jeans pocket and of course it should come with a pen or pencil to write with.

Read
Read blogs of similar content, read news paper, books and anything you could lay your hands on. Good writer are heavy readers you can write with feeding your head with information so read, read, read.

Listen to the radio
Don’t just listen to music, you should listen to radio shows where you could get information about the topic your writing about. Or you could start subscribing to a podcast about the topic you write about and by the way you might want to listen to this podcast.

Watch TV
They say watching TV eats up your time and you can’t do anything fruitful if you watch TV. This maybe true if you watch TV all day and night. Schedule your TV viewing, and don’t just watch anything watch educational shows, and of course watch a show relates to topic you write about.

To summarize, you need to keep informed about the topics you are writing about in order to sensibly write about them, have a schedule for writing, stick to it and blog, blog, blog.

My 1000 blog pages

Written by: Ollie Style
-

My 1000 blog pages

I wish I could write 10 blog articles a day for this blog but unfortunately I can’t, I could probably write 10 blog entries if I write full time at home but since I have a full time job I won’t be able to do that.

Realistically I could only write up to 1 to 3 two hundred word articles for my blog. The most possible being 1 article per day.

The reason I want to write 10 sensible blog entries a day is to develop this blog into a 1000 page web blog at the end of 3 months.

But if I can’t do it, I have to hit 1000 blog pages by the end of the year.

Sometimes at work if I don’t have customer calling in I try to write the outline of my articles and then finish them at home. This kind of technique of writing up an outline makes writing an article a lot easier. Because once I have the outline of the article I could easily write the rest of the article later.

When a particular day is really slow and there are no customers bugging us [hahahaha] I could easily write a two hundred word article in an hour. I remember last March I was able to write 3 - 200 word articles in one day because there was no one calling in.

But now a days I could only write at home, and if I’m lucky to have no distractions I could finish 3 blog entries in one sitting. I wish I can muster enough blogging power to write 10 blog articles a day in order to achieve my goal of 1000 blog articles at the end of this year.

1 Dollar a day - FREE from search engines

Written by: Ollie Style
-
1 Dollar a day - FREE from search engines

If you just earn 1 dollar a day, each and everyday from an adnetwork you will earn $365 in one year.

You can not
earn this kind of money just by laying around doing nothing. But thanks to the internet and adnetworks you can bank $365 a year if you simply earn $1 a day. That's if you build your site or blog to earn at least a 1 dollar a day. But if your blog or website gets thousands of visitors a day your potential earnings could increase considerably from 1 dollar a day to 10 dollars a day or even more.

I have a list of things that you could do to maximize your exposure on the internet using search engine traffic like Google, Yahoo, and MSN in order for you to earn 1 Dollar a day - FREE from search engines

Here it is:

Make your site easy to load.
Keep your site more or less 5k to 10k for easy access. Ooops I was told my site which is http://olliestyle.blogspot.com does not load as fast as it should, maybe I should lose some of the html codes in this page. I'll do it some day but not now :)

Start building the content of your site.
One page a day will keep your site in the range of search engines in no time. The pages that you should build should be keyword rich and informative. The article that you write for your site should be at least 200 to 500 characters to attract readers and search engines.

Use outbound links
Yes you should link to other pages, the outbound links should not be directed to low ranking sites, look for a site that is high up in the ranking ladder, and then link to it. If your keywords for example is 1 dollar a day, [which I am using on this article] search your keyword in Google, Yahoo, or MSN and link to it just like what I did here.

Use keywords on your article or blog entry.
If possible put the keywords you are working on, on the title of the article, and on the heading. Also put the same keywords in bold and italic, and also put it on the tags section of your blog/site, this is what others call old fashion Search Engine Optimization.

Search engines
Submit your site or blog to search engines. I don't need to elaborate on this further, submit your site and be patient.

Cross link to your pages.
If you have 100 pages for recipes, all these pages for recipes should link to each other in order to strengthen their ranking. Crossing linking to your own site's pages makes your site desirable by Google and other search engines.

Think of your readers.
Use short sentences and bulleted or numbered list, people like reading short stuff on the internet. Make it easy for your page to be read and you will soon have readers swarming your site/ blog. [This made me think, is this blog reader friendly? Hhmmm...]

Link to friends
This doesn't mean you only link to your friend's blog or website, what I mean is, you have to link to sites that have the same content as yours. Because as we all know, friends share a lot of things in common so does your web site or blog, it should share links to blogs or websites with the same content.

There are other techniques like having your own stand alone IP, and getting one way links, but I will talk about them in the future. I hope these tips help you earn one dollar a day from search engines, and if you religously build your web pages one day at a time you will soon earn more than 1 dollar a day -FREE from search engines.

Not everyone can be a Blogger

Not everyone can be a Blogger

I can not force you start your own blog simply because you could earn from it, blogging is a continuing process, it needs your attention each day, each week, or each month. You can not just start a blog and leave it alone to make money. It needs to be nurtured and cared for by posting regularly, aside from posting religiously your blog entries also need to be either entertaining or informative otherwise you will not have readers and you won't be able to maximize your earnings from the internet.

So if you can not dedicate a certain amount of time to your blog each day or each week or even each month it's better not to start blogging at all because you will just be contributing to the growing number of blogs in the blogoshere that has no current content for months, sometimes even years.

If you start blogging today make it a point to make every entry count otherwise don't blog at all.

Google's Ten Things

Written by: Ollie Style
Google's Ten Things

These are 10 things that Google.com has on their corporate page, It's good to know them specially if you are trying to have your site listed on their search engine.

1. Focus on the user and all else will follow.

This philosophy where the user comes first before anything else is probably one of the most effective ways of doing business. If you see Google's page, it doesn't have any ads on it unlike other famous search engines.

They think of the user's primary concern, which is searching for something on the internet. That's why they made their landing page really simple.

2. It's best to do one thing really, really well.

Yes Google has proven to be the best search engine for a lot of people. That's why they are making a lot of money out of it. [Adsense and Adwords]

3. Fast is better than slow.

You never have to wait for the Google landing page to load unlike other search engines, and if you type in a particular keyword you will get it in less than a second. I tried searching for "Ollie Style" and this is the result:

Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 456,000 for ollie style. (0.19 seconds)

4. Democracy on the web works.

Google looks into the links that each website gets so the more links that your site gets the more it shows up on the Google searches. It really relies on people or the internet users, because the more people link to your site the more visitors you get.

5. You don't need to be at your desk to need an answer.

This made me think, maybe I should start learning how to put this blog on mobile devices because a lot people are in to cellphones and mobile gadgets now, I'll start researching about it, maybe you should too.

6. You can make money without doing evil.

Some people are selling their links or Page Ranks, and Google doesn't want it. If you get caught doing it your ranking will fall. I even read people getting zero search results for the their website because they are selling their PRs. Come to think of it, let me check my page ranking. There you go, I'm on number 4.

My ranking on Google Search fluctuates but "Ollie Style" is still on the first few pages.

7. There's always more information out there.

Google is continually upgrading their search engine and their other services, if you've noticed they are adding more services all the time. The latest one that I saw was the ability to post blog entries at a latter date on Blogger. [If in case you don't know, Blogger.com was acquired by Google. ]

8. The need for information crosses all borders.

That's why Google has offices and volunteers around the world, they also have dozens of websites, and they have a translation feature in order to reach more people. I wonder when they will have an office in the Philippines, or they already have one - educate me please...

9. You can be serious without a suit.

Their employees are happy employees, I haven't heard of any strike at the Google Head Quarters.[if ever their is going to be one it will definitely be BIG News] They have playrooms for the kids of their employees, and office tables that have all sorts of toys [you probably could bring your things/ toys at work...] Employees are not required to wear corporate clothing.

I wonder if I could pass their interview and strict hiring process, hhmmm.

10. Great just isn't good enough.

Yes I believe they are really pushing their company and their services to the limit. I've been using Gmail since 2004 and I never had any problems with it yet, it has tremendous capacity and most of all it's totally free. Hotmail or Yahoo can not beat that, and no one since 2004 has come close to that kind of email power. I guess that's why I am a die hard Gmail fan.

That's Google's Ten Things, I hope you learned something.

Do you want to increase your blog traffic?

Written by: Ollie Style

I submitted this article to free article submission sites, if you think this article needs improvement please leave a comment below.

-------

Do you want to increase your blog traffic?

The answer of course is yes. Who doesn’t want traffic to his blog. Below are proven and effective ways you may or may not be doing to generate traffic to your web site or blog. The ones that I list down are the ones that I’ve been practicing.

Email.
Don’t spam, if you are going to do this you will be shunned and might just get negative blog publicity. What I do is email my friends and ask them to subscribed to my blog email. I also ask them to tell all their friends, coworkers and relatives about my blog. I am currently working on an opt in email subscription which I will be launching soon.

Free article submission.
I’ve been doing this for a while now and it’s been really productive. If you’re interested simply leave a comment on my blog and I will show you how to do it. I will also show you where I submit my articles. [leave a comment if you’re interested ok? Here is my URL: http://www.olliestyle.tk]

Blog directory submission
Directory subscription is also effective you can get a lot of readers and hits by submitting your site to blog directories. [go to my site and you will see the sites where I submit my blog>>> OLLIE STYLE DOT TK >>>see the blog directory category]

Search engine submission
It’s important for your site or blog to get noticed by search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. But there are other websites out there that will also contribute to your site’s popularity. I use a FREE search engine submitter and so far I'm very contented with it, I am not trying to sell you the paid version the free version in my opinion will work well for you specially if you are a newbie.

Feedburner
What can I say about Feedburner? It’s the best. It has all sorts of stuff on it like the reader counter, email reader subscription, site headlines that I use and and a lot more useful stuff. You can even earn money using it. http://feedburner.com

Word of mouth
This is probably the oldest kind of marketing that’s around, use it to your advantage. Just don’t spread gossip, word of mouth marketing is very effective some web sites and bricks and mortar businesses where launched this way.

Viral marketing
This is one of the most effective ways of generating traffic to your blog or website. I am currently using viral marketing to promote a website that I am supporting which is PURO JOBS DOT COM. You will see PURO JOBS ads on the number one spot, and if you join your ad will be on the number one spot, second is purojobs. So far I’ve had a few hundred hits just from this viral marketing site, so I think it really works, and I’m expecting a lot more in the days to come. By the way it’s totally free to join and maintain. The site will not ask you to upgrade or become a premium subscriber, it’s totally FREE. http://VIRALMARKETINGSITE.TK

Between an online and an offline business which on one do you prefer?

Between an online and an offline business I prefer having an online business than an offline business.

Here are the reasons why:

  • Easy to set up and start up. You could get a site/ or a blog and have it working in minutes.
  • Low investment, you could even start up one with out having to pay the essentials like web hosting, and domain name registration you could get free on the internet for free. Sometimes all you need is a personal computer and you will be on your way to earning from home.
  • You don’t need to maintain any stock for inventory if you are only selling digital products or offering membership sites, job posting site, or online advertising.
  • You could reach a lot of people with email, opt ins, feeds, bookmarks, article marketing and some other method without spending a lot of money.
  • Few or no employees to maintain. You would not need to hire people if you’re an affiliate marketer promoting other people’s business but if you are selling books or any tangible product you might just need employees if the orders become too many to handle. But in most cases, specially if you are an affiliate marketer you wouldn’t need to hire people to help you, you could handle your business on your own.
  • You can operate at home or anywhere you want as long as there's internet connection, and you can work at your own hours

On the other hand an offline business you would need a lot of money to start.

  • A storefront to display your products or an office is what you will need to start an offline business
  • Since you will need an office or store front the initial capital outlay will be a lot, you might want to consider borrowing from friends, relatives, or from a bank to raise the needed capital for your business.
  • You would have to maintain stocks, you would need a separate room in your store front for your stocks
  • For advertising or promotion, you could go from newspaper advertising, TV, radio, billboard advertising or other forms of offline advertising. You could even go for online advertising. Newspaper, TV, radio, and billboard advertising however would cost you a lot of money.
  • You will most likely need a helping hand in your offline business, you would need to hire at least a few employees to help you with your business.
Like me you may want the online business better than a bricks and mortar business, but it's a good idea to have a good mixture of both online and offline business. Let's say for example your business is a bookstore, you must also have an online presence in order to go full circle. Because if you don't you will be missing out on a lot of sales from people who buy online.

Here are somethings you could do if you have an online/ offline business:

  • Use paper click advertising to attract more people to your business whether online or offline. I recommend Adbrite and Bidvertiser because I personally make money from these ad networks.
  • Use email marketing to send out email campaigns to your customers. Be careful with this thou, don't send out emails to people who did ask for the info.
  • Advertise on newspapers to reach people who wouldn't even be able to go to your online/offline store front unless you advertise on print. When you advertise on newspaper don't just put your URL, but also your email, phone number and physical address.
  • If your business is just starting out, billboards, radio, and TV ads might not be a good idea. But if you think your business is ready for the above mentioned forms of advertising go ahead, but be cautious when spending your advertising money. Your advertisement has to pay for it's self, if doesn't pay for itself you better stop advertising.
  • Use the phone, all thou in some areas telemarketing is not allowed you could still utilize the phone to contact possible cutomers. Just be very cautious when doing telemarketing. Use a good list from a reliable list broker or you could simply use the telephone directory.
  • Flyers, yes this still works. Create a simple flyer with your phone numbers, email address, URL and business address. Offer a discount, print it on the flyer and give it away in busy locations like supermarkets, and malls and you will be amazed by the results.

Let's help each other achieve our goals, if you have anything to share please feel free to add a comment.

Traits of millionaires non millionaires should imitate

Here are the traits of millionaires that we non millionaires should emulate:

Save money

Most millionaires specially the ones who build their riches from scratch sets aside a certain percentage of money for investments or simply for retirement.

Clear goal

Successful people usually write down their goals, and the time and date they want to accomplish those goals. If your mind is not clearly set towards the realization of your goals you will easily get off track. So in order for you to have a clear vision of your goal you have to write it down.

Sacrifice

Staying late at night to finish the manuscript of the book you are writing, or doing 50 extra calls a day to invite clients to your sales presentation to boost your sales is a clear indication of sacrifice. So if you need to sacrifice something in order to reach your goal do it. If it’s not ethical and if it’s going to hurt someone it’s not worth the sacrifice, just keep your conscience meter always on and you will be sure that you are making your sacrifice worthwhile.

Wanting it bad enough

If you want something bad enough you will do anything in your power to accomplish whatever it is that you want. Most millionaires wanted to earn money and accumulate wealth more than anything that's why they reached their goals. So you have to want to earn and make your first million bad enough to make it happen.

Sure investment

Millionaires like investing and taking calculated risks, they weight things first and then they plunge into it giving it a certain amount of investment to make it work and become profitable. We as non millionaires should copy this kind of attitude toward investing.

Your own product/service

You should have your own product or service to offer to the general public if you want to become a top earner, if you don't have anything to sell or a service to offer it's going to be difficult to make your first million. So start developing a product or service that will make you money.

Multiple income

Rich people create multiple income streams to assure that they get a large portion of the over all market. So if you will start a soap business don’t just be contended with body soap, also manufacture liquid hand soaps, dish washing soap, detergent, and shampoo. Diversify your products or services in order to make more money

Power of leveraging

If you can make people participate in your money making business by giving them commissions you are on your way to making a lot of money. Adbrite, Bidvertiser, and other adnetwork programs on the internet are leveraging other peoples website or blogs. If you could find a product or a service where you could ask people to work for you in exchange for something valuable then you are on your way to becoming a financial giant.

Enjoyment

Find out what you are passionate about and build your business around it, it may be about gardening, computers, photography or writing. Find out how you could make money with it. Once you find out what you are passionate about you will not have any difficulty starting making money, and you will someday earn your first million.
